EGG FREEZING

Egg Freezing
___________________

Egg Freezing started off originally as an option to safeguard the fertility and eggs of the women who had to undergo toxic treatments like chemo and radiotherapy to combat cancer. But over time, as the technology for harvesting, freezing and thawing was perfected, the procedure found greater and more widespread use.

Socially, more women today tend to embrace motherhood at a later age and they in particular turn to freezing their eggs. As women age, the quality and quantity of eggs decline and this is where freezing the healthy eggs is of utmost importance.

Harvesting the eggs is usually done trans-vaginally but it can also be done trans-abdominally through belly skin, should a woman choose to protect her cultural and religious values and preserve virginity.

The eggs are frozen for a period of 5 years after which an extension can be sought and granted for a further 5 years.
