Just like doing spring cleaning your home, it’s a great idea to do a spring cleaning with your makeup and other beauty products. I know, I know… messing with your makeup is not cool, but did you know that environmental toxins and other unnatural substances lurking in your beauty products can be a significant contributing factor to fertility challenges ? What we put ON our bodies is just as important as what we put IN our bodies.
Makeup does such wonders to enhance our own natural beauty and radiance, and you have to take great care in selecting products that are “clean.”
Have you ever heard of “endocrine disruptors”? They are harmful substances that negatively impact your endocrine system, which regulates hormones in the body. Any substance that has the potential of impacting your body’s ability to regulate its hormones can interfere with your ability to conceive. There are many published studies that have shown a clear connecting link between years of using products that contain endocrine disruptors and an increase in diagnoses such as Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS), endometriosis, among others.
The Environmental Working Group or EWG, has a wealth of information available to assist you in selecting products that do not have these endocrine-disrupting properties. Although based in the United States, the impact of EWG reaches worldwide. The chemical content of the dirty substances are the same, so don’t let the references to the United States throw you off when doing your research on this website. One of the many resource lists by EWG includes the “Dirty Dozen” disruptors. Go to the site below to see the list:
I encourage you to take a good inventory of your products now and determine whether your makeup routine fits the clean bill and if not, taking even small steps to replace unnatural makeup products with cleaner ones will do your body a world of good. From here on out, be very diligent about reading ingredient labels on your bath and beauty products, and use vegan, organic and cruelty-free makeup brands where you can.
A quick google search will yield several great and relatively inexpensive options for you to choose great makeup. With a few simple clicks on my computer, I was able to replace my most prized beauty products within a matter of a few weeks.
Also from EWG, here is a very helpful link for you to review lots of good stuff on beauty products specifically:
Be good to your body by renewing your commitment to treating it as a temple. There is no better time than now for you to take even small steps to clean up your beauty routine and impact your body’s fertility !
All my best to you,
