Kimche. Kefir. Sauerkrat. Pickles. Kombucha. Apple Cider Vinegar (with The Mother).

What do all of these foods have in common? They are delicious AND full of helpful, healing bacteria.

Gut health is SO important to our over all health. It is a first line of defense to fight off sickness and dis-ease. It is also a huge part of our bodies communication system for so many of the things that happen within. 

If you find yourself struggling with any of the following, fermented foods could be a great addition to your nutrition to get your best self back on track.

Auto-immune issues.

Frequent colds, congestion, allergies.

Constipation.

Bloating.

Fatigue.

You might be sitting there thinking, “Hey, hold up a second here, Lane. Are you saying all I have to do is eat fermented foods and none of these things will be an issue anymore?” Nope. If only it was that simple. Here’s the deal, it might not be a magical cure, but it can only help.

Our gut is populated with billions of bacteria. Yet that bacteria can be destroyed with antibiotics, processed foods, chemicals, and many other things we encounter in our daily lives. We can also have an overgrowth of the not-so-awesome kind of bacteria. 

So how does gut health tie into fertile health? Great question.

If our gut health isn’t tip top then we are more prone to disease and inflammation in the body. These create distractions from our reproductive system and what we really want our body to do… make a baby. 

Another important part of gut health is regular bowel movements. And by regular I mean every. Single. Day. Our bowels excrete excess hormones (like estrogen) that our body does not need. If they don’t get removed in our waste then they can get reabsorbed. Not ideal. Gut health can be integral part of balanced hormones. Balanced hormones are an integral part of achieving a healthy pregnancy.

To make sure you are getting all the benefits from these yummy foods look for them in the refrigerator section. Organic is best but, cold is a must. For example, sauerkraut and pickles can also be cooked and canned for preservation and therefor stored on the shelves. However, when they are preserved this way all the bacteria would have to be cooked out.  

Maybe Hippocrates was really onto something when he said, “All disease begins in the gut.”
